Invivo 2019 Chardonnay: Great New Zealand Chardonnay doesn’t happen by cutting corners. Here at Invivo & Co we’ve not made ours for a couple of years because we wanted it to be just right. What you have here is a full-bodied Chardonnay of beautiful, ripe stone fruits with creamy, classy toasty oak – ‘delivering ‘that’ Go-To Chardonnay.’
Invivo X, SJP 2019: Abundant notes of grapefruit, honeysuckle, passionfruit and citrus zest evolve from the glass. At first, the palate is expansive and leads with a wall of sweet-scented fruits and a soft – but balanced – acid spine. The mid-palate grows to another level, where supple phenolics offer a framework to further lift the fruit. The wine continues to unfold and is very long and persistent. This is a seriously drinkable Sauvignon Blanc that will continue to develop for up to seven years.
Invivo Pinot Noir: 2018 was a ripper of a summer and, if we’re honest, a bit too hot! The Central Otago locals were complaining bitterly that their secret Gibbston Valley waterhole was getting too crowded! Suffice to say the vineyards copped a bit of heat more akin to Barossa than Bannockburn. That said, we did manage to pull off a bit of a blinder with this vintage. Ripeness and fruit weren’t the challenge – more just capturing the balance and not overdoing the new oak. Boom! Bold, vibrant black cherries, raspberries, subtle thyme, espresso and toast all erupt from the glass. The nose compels you to taste, and you’re not disappointed. Loads of sweet fruit with sexy, toasty oak this is a real mouthful of Pinot.
Invivo Sauvignon Blanc: 2019 was a nice cushy vintage: no rain, no stress, nice steady ripening, good solid crops. We could have made good wine blindfolded! We had to watch the acidity a little bit as it was rocketing downhill very quickly, but we picked nice and early and captured the good zingy stuff. We stuck to our roots with 2019 – not too passionfruit-y but lovely citrus/tropical aromas and flavours. The warm season has given a slightly softer appearance to the 2019 Sauvignon, but the balance is there and it’s a juicy, big and very drinkable wine.
Invivo Pinot Gris: Even though the 2019 Pinot Gris was picked on April 1st this baby is no joke. This is one of the ripest years we’ve seen out of our single vineyard Rarangi Pinot Gris and once we get to 23 Brix or so, we start to see some beautiful flavour development on the vine. Pinot Gris also tends to really beef up in texture and weight – and the key is finding the balance. We reckon we’ve done a pretty good job on that (you’ll be the judge of course!) We ended up with a heady scent of honeysuckle and poached pears on the nose and a lovely full mouthfeel of fresh pear and floral notes. There is some sweetness, but it isn’t dominant and it finishes crisp and clean, suggesting you pour another glass, politely.
