2018 was a ripper of a summer and, if we’re honest, a bit too hot! The Central Otago locals were complaining bitterly that their secret Gibbston Valley waterhole was getting too crowded! Suffice to say the vineyards copped a bit of heat more akin to Barossa than Bannockburn.That said, we did manage to pull off a bit of a blinder with this vintage. Ripeness and fruit weren’t the challenge – more just capturing the balance and not overdoing the new oak.
Boom! Bold, vibrant black cherries, raspberries, subtle thyme, espresso and toast all erupt from the glass. The nose compels you to taste, and you’re not disappointed. Loads of sweet fruit with sexy, toasty oak this is a real mouthful of Pinot.
