Invivo Marlborough Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris can be challenging to describe sometimes, we often get pear, fresh but also “poached” meaning this flavor has almost been slightly candied. It also has what I would call a slightly “musky” aroma - highly aromatic with a sweet/earthy character. The palate is lovely! Soft and rich, and we have ample acidity to balance out the creamy-full mid palate and just a hint of sweetness on the finish. Enjoy!

"It is beautifully elegant and fragrant on the nose displaying white nectarine, fresh pear, lemon peel and floral characters. The palate is juicy and finely textured, and shows excellent focus and persistency. Pristine, flavoursome and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2018."

A nice clean season with little rain gave us some pretty good material to work with. Pinot Gris tends to disintegrate as the summer draws to a close so it’s always a challenge to pick it just before it “picks itself “and falls on the ground! 2015 being so warm meant we arrived at “full term” a bit earlier than “due date”, so didn’t have these problems.

We always get quite a bit of shrivel of the berries which produces little sugar and flavour bombs but is always difficult to guess what the average sugar will end up being, so this was picked really on a hunch. Not a bad result if we do say so ourselves...
