Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2014

"Awatere Valley punchy flavours and aromas evolve freely from the glass; the 2014 saw slightly more herbal/minty notes mingling with the usual tropical and citrus. This represented the spectrum of the harvest and works quite well with this wine. This is well backed up by a vibrant, cutting fresh palate with deceptive power and concentration. Evidence of the lees contact adds a textural dimension to the focused palate and bouncing tropical fruit. Great with a wide range of cuisine, or as your first as you complete a long day of work or leisure!"

"A funky, unusual wine indicating a wild ferment. Complex, distinctive with spice and green fruit."

Winemaking

The fruit was harvested at night, de-stemmed and crushed then cold settled for 48 hours. Clear juice was racked and solids vacuum filtered back to the free run. A number of yeasts were used to help create a spectrum of aroma’s and texture with average fermentation lasting around 3 weeks. The tanks were then topped up and stirred (battonage) without sulphur for 10-12 weeks. After the wine had gained some lees texture it was lightly fined with Casein and Isinglass and stabilized for bottling.

Harvest date: 05-22 April 2014
